Our training facility

Our home and kennel sit on 7.5 Acres and all yard work is done right here. We also have access to several hundred acres of private property that is used as a training ground. We have it all, large open hay fields; fields with cover and cover changes, lakes, ponds, etc. We at Flight Cancelled believe with the diversity of our available training grounds and the amount of different terrain we have, your dog, in our program will see it all. He/She will see each learned concept at many different sites. This is a very important factor in building a reliable retriever. Our program has been very successful at building that perfect hunting partner that’s eager and ready to go but also ready to sleep next to you and wind down easily after a long day.

Our training program

Flight Cancelled Kennels offers an outstanding Retriever Training Program. Having learned from some of the games best, we have developed a system that produces rock solid Gun Dogs, Hunt Test Dogs, and Field Trial Prospects. Obedience training is also offered. If you decide to have us train your dog we will work closely with you once you get your pup home. Your pup's first six months are very important and we will be there to guide you through it all. If you have us train your retriever we also expect you to come work with us before you bring your dog back home. That way we can teach you to drive the performance machine we built for you. At Flight Cancelled Kennels we limit the number of Client Dogs we take in and each dog is given the proper attention he/she needs in order to thrive in the time we have with them.

The Details

Beginning manners are a must. If the puppy/dog doesn’t already possess the basic manners, these will be implemented in the beginning phase. This includes but is not limited to sit, heel, waiting for release for food, kennel, off (no jumping) etc. Once we have mastered the basics, we can transition to fieldwork, which requires effective retrieval training. This phase focuses on developing reliable fetching, holding, and releasing skills, ensuring that your dog retrieves efficiently and effectively.

Generally, we recommend training sessions from Monday to Friday, during which this time, the dog will be boarded with us and is included in the package and pricing. This schedule is important for the dogs' development, allowing them to return home on weekends to reconnect with their owners and work on individualized "homework" assignments. This approach facilitates a gradual integration into training, enabling both the owner and the dog to lay the groundwork for successful future hunts.
